Last Tuesday, on a wet and dismal evening at Chestnut Avenue, the Reserves took on a Bedfont Green side that was represented by their whole first team squad, including three ex-Woods players Gavin Hart, Chris Gell and Fergus Moore.

The reason being that Bedfont Green had not had a game for a couple of weeks in the Zamaretta South & West Division and needed a run out. And what a run out they got from a magnificent young Woods team!

In the first half Bedfont were quicker to the ball and took a deserved 2-0 lead through some great play by their No.11, the first after only 8 minutes and the second on 32 minutes after they swept upfield following a Woods attack.

But right on half-time Woods got back into the game when Laurie Walters nicked the ball off a defender, played it to Danny Power, whose lob found John Sonuga, who calmly lobbed the advancing keeper to make the half-time score 1-2.

Within five minutes of the restart Mark Britt was injured when clearing a ball, and heroically played out the rest of the match on one leg. Just after the injury a Bedfont defender tried his luck from 30 yards only for the ball to come back off the post.

Two minutes later the Woods equalised when Sonuga won the ball, and sent in Walters to score from an acute angle. Woods were now playing at their best, and from a free kick taken by John Daily, Will Hudson controlled it beautifully in a packed area to swivel and score.

Bedfont, driven on by their manic manager went flat out for the equaliser but three brilliant saves by Britt and a headed clearance off the line by Scott Purdue kept them out.

This was a magnificent team performance which kept the Woods’ unbeaten record intact. Man of the Match: Laurie Walters (just ahead of the rest).
